It is vital to address any workplace complaints promptly – delays can increase the risk of further harm to those involved. The Workplace Advantage approach ensures investigations are managed with efficiency and with care, striking the right balance of thoroughness and timeliness to deliver clear, practical recommendations that are easy to action.

Our holistic approach to workplace investigations has been designed to promote a culture of trust, transparency and accountability enabling healthier and more productive workplaces that thrive.

By engaging expert workplace investigation, organisations reduce the probability of future claims arising from the process itself.

A trauma-informed approach

At Workplace Advantage, we use a trauma-informed approach in our investigatory process. This approach recognises the unique needs and value of each person involved in an investigation. It aims to reduce any further trauma to those already experiencing psychological or emotional harm from the work situation. Our process is thorough, informed and meticulously planned to ensure that the required vital information is gathered for the successful conclusion of the investigation.

Our investigations process

Acknowledge  >  Assess  >  Engage  >  Plan  >  Notify  >  Gather  >  Analyse  >  Deliver  >  Action

  1. Acknowledge: A complaint of allegations of misconduct should be taken seriously and promptly acknowledged.
  2. Assess: An assessment of the complaint is required to determine whether to proceed with a workplace investigation.
  3. Engage: Workplace Advantage is notified and engaged to undertake an investigation into the allegations.
  4. Plan: An investigation plan is developed and clear expectations and timelines are established.
  5. Notify: Complainant(s) and Respondent(s) are notified that an investigation is underway,
their role in the investigation, the process and relevant timeframes.
  6. Gather: Interviews are conducted with relevant parties, ensuring confidentiality and discretion. Additional, tangible evidence is gathered. This could include emails, communications, CCTV footage, for example.
  7. Analyse: Evidence is assessed and findings are made.  A draft Report is provided to the client.
  8. Deliver: The final Report is sent to the client.
  9. Action: We offer ongoing support to develop and implement effective communication and action strategies that manage negative dissent and uphold the safety and wellbeing of all involved post-investigation.

Beyond the investigation

The alleged circumstances of any event that leads to a workplace investigation, though undertaken with great care and discretion, can have a much wider impact across the broader team. Expectations of how the alleged event was handled and any action arising that could lead to conflict and should be carefully and sensitively communicated. Engagement and culture across the workplace should be a key consideration informing any recommendation following an investigation. The outcome could negatively impact culture, retention, engagement, reputation and productivity.

As part of our core service offering, Workplace Advantage offers comprehensive organisational culture reviews that can unearth systemic challenges within the workplace.
